The scenic way to explore Stockholm

Stockholm may not be Venice but the option of doing a sightseeing tour by boat is another little oddity of this charming city. And it is a great one! As you may know, Stockholm was built on several islands, small and big. There are hundreds of bridges in the city and again, it may not be like Venice but let me assure you - the ocean and Lake Mälaren make Stockholm the special place that it is.

In the spring EVERYONE who lives in the city and of course also every tourist hangs out by the water as soon as the first sunshine is sighted. Doesn't matter whether or not it's still chilly outside. And when I "lived" in Stockholm for a month in 2014, I didn't behave any differently.

But instead of doing the boat tour in March when the weather was warm, I did it on my second day in Stockholm in February.

And I loved every minute of it! Although it was raining and absolutely cold, the weather cleared up as soon as we went onboard. It's a double-decker boat so we had the option of staying on deck or inside.

Myself and most of the other passengers went on deck and stayed there until we left the city centre of Stockholm. I had a very nice lunch then inside and went back outside again right after it. The views were absolutely stunning.

The boat trip gets you to the Fjäderholmarna, the feather islands, which apparently are THE hotspot on summer weekends as most Stockholmers seem to spend their free days there.

The tour then goes past Djurgarden, the museum and attraction island that I already spoke of in my Östermalm & Djurgarden article, and then brings you safely to the city centre again.
